Traditional Favourites with Craft Beer on Tap at The Phoenix, SW1

the-phoenix-victoria-restaurant-review-08For all of theatre goers or visitors, The Phoenix is hidden gem in Victoria. With a selection of craft beers and outdoor tables, it’s a place for socializing and has an impressive menu making a good vibe in a central location. With an eclectic mix of interiors in the bright space, it never loses a cozy feel. A pub at its core, it keeps the spirit of the beer revolution.

Upstairs is the airy dining room with a Victorian twist as you dine under a grand portrait of a rather boozy lady. The British menu centering on a culinary take of pub favorites features seasonal specials along with roasts on Sundays.

Today “British” also means local produce and meats with Lincolnshire poacher, Somerset camembert, and Aberdeen Angus sirloin. After a nice afternoon lunch, it was clear to us that there is a real emphasis on fresh, and one of the few non-fusion gastro pubs. Expect generous proportions and don’t be afraid to ask the staff for their wine suggestions.

Editor’s Picks:

Starters – Breaded Somerset camembert, fig jam & candid walnut

Mains – Pan fried sea bass, celeriac, smoked bacon, chicory, shallots

Sides – Honey roasted parsnips & carrots; Truffled Mash potato

Pudding – Bramley apple & cranberry crumble, custard

Wine Suggestion for above – Les Amis Grenache Blanc Viognier, Pays-d’oc, a gentle, floral, spicy blend
