Vinoteca brings the spirit of Italian and Spanish wine bars to London. Having first opened in 2005 in Farringdon, they now have wine bars in Marylebone, Chiswick, King’s Cross and for our first visit we went to their Soho eatery.
With the Southern Europe spirit, we started with their homemade bread and olive oil as we looked over the menu weighing heavily towards British and continental cuisine. Extensive wine list, yes, but to make it most enjoyable everything on the menu had a wine suggestion to go with it. The wine list is updated twice a year and boasts 285 wines, while there is an ever-changing selection of 25 available per glass. Lucky for us, they also have their own wine shop and you can order online.
With the excitement of wine aside, Vinoteca set over two floors with a full a la carte offers a chance to explore seasonal and carefully sourced produced plates in a stylized setting with huge windows embracing the streets of Soho. The minimalist décor complements the minimalist cuisine where fine sauces are opted instead of heavy. Cured imported meat from Spain is one of their favourites while I was tipped that many people go there for their bavette steak which is marinated for 24 hours prior.
With the combination of wine bar/restaurant, it is turning into a well-loved destination for foodies. Stylish, cozy, and in walking distance of London’s theatre and shopping districts, it makes a good place for apero with friends or a romantic dinner for two.
